The inheritance of foliage striping, viz., yellow striping in purple foliage, yellow striping in green foliage and white and yellow striping in green foliage has been reported. The striping of foliage with yellow or white and yellow stripes was recessive to non-striped foliage. Yellow striping in purple as well as green foliage was determined by three complementary recessive genes while the development of white and yellow stripes in green foliage was governed by different sets of genes with duplicate, complementary and inhibitory type of gene interactions. The yellow colour of stripes of the two genetic stocks PYS-7 and GYS-8 was controlled by the same set of genes; both these stocks were differentiated from GWS-14 by one of the three loci determining yellow colour of stripes.
