Abstract

The study on genetics of wilt resistance in linseed revealed that the resistance in N.P. (R.R.) 9 and N.P. (R.R.) 45 is conditioned by one pair of dominant genes. Wilt resistance in N.P. (R.R.) 498 and K 5834 is governed by duplicate factors and that in Bolley Golden by two complementary factors.

The studies on the inter-relationship of these genes showed that the factors for wilt resistance present in N.P. (R.R.) 9 and N.P. (R.R.) 45 might be the same and that this factor present in N.P. (R.R.) 9 and N.P. (R.R.) 45 is allelomorphic to one of the two factors in N.P. (R.R.) 498. The factors for wilt resistance carried by each of the two exotic varieties, Bolley Golden and K 5834 appear to be different from each other and are independent of the factors present in indigenous varieties. Since Bolley Golden and K 5834, introductions from U.S.A. and U.S.S.R. respectively, seem to carry diverse genes for wilt resistance these varieties would prove useful in the future breeding programme.
