Abstract

An analysis of fractional diallel crosses using triangular and factorial designs of Fyfe and Gilbert (1963) is attempted to compare the relative efficiencies of these designs with the full diallel and the circulant designs of Kempthorne and Curnow (1961) in a 10 x 10 diallel crosses of linseed.

Considerable general combining ability estimates were obtained for design II and IV with underestimation for design I indicating superiority of the former designs over the latter. Design II and IV are better balanced and can be equally compared with the circulant designs of Kempthorne and Curnow (1961) when s=n/2. The underestimation of s.c.a, estimate is observed for all the three designs used.

The estimates obtained by changing the order of parents for flowering time alone has indicated little to no effect of ordering either on the g.c.a. effects or on the consistency of these designs.
