Abstract

Combined treatments of gamma-rays and EMS decreased seedling height, seed fertility and increased M1 chlorophyll chimeras and M2 mutation frequencies. Enhancement in the mutation frequency has been attributed to increased induction and fixation of mutational events.

Chlorophyll mutation frequency was positively correlated with viable mutation frequency. Combined treatments varied and enlarged the spectrum of viable mutations.

The ratios between chromosome breakage and mutation frequency obtained were diverse, suggesting that the induction of these two types of responses are not completely related.
