The mode of inheritance of resistance to leaf rust races 10 and 106 was studied in crosses E. 5008(R) X N.P. 770(S) and E. 5883(R) X N.P. 770(S). The data indicated the presence of two independent recessive genes against race 10 and one dominant and one recessive gene against race 106, in E. 5008 and E. 5883. Allelism tests show that the recessive genes conferring resistance to these races in the two varieties, may be identical. The dominant gene for resistance to race 106 in both the varieties, however, may or may not be identical. It is suggested that Frontana has contributed the genes for resistance to both the varieties under study.
