Study was undertaken to know the mode of inheritance to stem rust resistance in some of the exotic parents and improved varieties. Stem rust resistance was found to be monofactorially controlled in crosses of S. 227, S. 308 and E. 4853 with Indian varieties. Resistance of these parents is recessive to the susceptibility of Indian parents. In E. 4870, stem rust resistance is controlled by a single dominant factor pair. It appears that E. 4870 is more useful donor parent than S. 227, S. 308 and E. 4853.
