The stored pollen of cotton, Hibiscus and maize retained their viability for short periods as judged by their in vitro germinability and partial success in vivo. The results point to the fact that it is futile to expect to determine optimum storage conditions for pollen in general (excepting fruit pollen) and cereal pollen in particular, by merely changing the RH and temperature conditions. The remedial measures as well as possible alternatives in the absence of proper storage conditions are discussed.
