Abstract

The inheritance studies on the ear characters have shown that bristling and branched ear base are monogenic dominant characters, whereas branched ear tip is monogenic recessive. The purple pigmentation of foliage is determined by two complementary dominant genes. The interrelationship studies of branched ear tip with bristling, purple foliage and branched ear base have shown that these are inherited independently of each other. The genes controlling these characters may thus be located either at 50 or more cross over units apart from the gene for BET-22 or present on different chromosomes. Bristling being a monogenic dominant character can be easily transferred to the desired inbred lines for resistance against birds.
