Abstract

Path analysis was undertaken to assess the influence of various panicle characters on grain yield per plant in 19 sorghum hybrids and one local variety. Number of grains per panicle had a maximum contribution to grain yield as revealed by its large positive direct effect on the latter. Thousand grain weight also had a large positive direct effect which was, however, nullified considerably by its indirect negative influence through grains per panicle. Number of grains per primary branch was major component of number of grains per panicle.
