Abstract

The role of introgressive hybridization with respect to two closely related species of genus Saccharum, namely, S. robustum and S. officinarum, was studied by use of pictorialized scatter diagram, hybrid index and correlation coefficient values. Pictorialized scatter diagram and hybrid index indicated restriction in recombination with respect to some of the characters and the role of hybridization. The r values also showed a similar trend, indicating that introgressive hybridization has played a role in the evolution of these two species.
