Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was an attempt to distribute 47 citru-lline-requiring Schizosaccharomyces pombe mutants over their genes and to carry out the complementation and recombination tests within one of these genes which will be considered as arg-2.

Eighteen citrulline-requiring mutants showed that they cannot complement with each of the two citrulline-requiring mutants, arg-D14 and arg-D46 which proved by genetic investigation to be alleles of a single gene. They were divided by complementation tests into five groups: 12 mutants were group A, 2 mutants were group B, 2 mutants were group C and one in each of D and E. Comparison of the genetic map with the complementation map of arg-2 showed that the A group mutants are scattered on the genetic map.
