One hundred pure breeding guar accessions were grown in replicated layout for correlation studies in respect of seed yield, endosperm and gum content.
Seed yield and gum content were positively correlated and both of them individually expressed significant positive correlations with height, branch number and pod number on one hand and negative correlations with pod length and 100-seed weight on the other. It is, therefore, implied that a particular trait showing a positive correlation with either or these two would also be likewise correlated with the other. Endosperm percentage was also negatively correlated with seed size and pod length. Long pods and large seed having individually negative correlations with seed yield and gum content were of little selection value for evolving high yielding varieties rich in gum content.
