Abstract

The mode of inheriance of hairiness on various plant parts in pearl millet was studied. Hairy node was found to be governed by a single dominant gene. Hairiness of leaf was dependent upon a recessive gene for its manifestation. Gene symbols Hn and hi are proposed for hairy node and hairy leaf respectively. The two characters are independent of each other.
