Abstract

Three thousand eight hundred and sixty sorghum lines were tested for their resistance to sugary disease under artificial epiphytotic condition. Thirty five varieties, originating mostly from Africa and India and a majority belonging to the groups conspicuum and caudatum were rated resistant or they remained free of infection or only a few of florets became infected. Another 76 varieties were regarded resistant as more than 5 per cent of the florets per head became infected. These originated mostly from Africa, India and to a limited extent from U.S.A. and Japan. They mainly represented the groups, conspicuum, durra and caudatum.
