Abstract

Dormant and dehusked seeds of rice were treated with freshly prepared aqueous solutions of diethyl sulphate. The ontogenetically different tillers of M1 plants were marked as they developed. The amount of pollen sterility in M1 was relatively higher in secondary tillers than in main and primary tillers. The present study clearly suggests that alkylating agents like diethyl sulphate induce maximum frequency of chlorophyll mutations in the secondary tillers as compared to other tiller types.
