The objective of the present study was to find out the components of genetic variation for different quantitative characters, which influence the final yield in Linum. The observed F2 variance was partitioned into D, H and E components. In addition to the estimation of genetic interaction from generation means, estimates of heritability and genetic advance were also computed.
The interaction components indicated that epistasis plays a significant role in the inheritance of all the characters studied. High additive genetic variance and expected genetic gain were found in case of capsule number, seeds per capsule and 100-seed weight. It was, therefore, suggested that yield improvement can be effected by basing selection on these components of yield.
