Abstract

The nature of combining ability and the components of genetic variance were studied in a diallel set of seven parents in F1 and F2 and of five parents in F3 and backcross generations. It was noted that the general combining ability variance were higher than the specific combining ability variance. The crosses with specific combining ability generally involved High × Low combinations. Component analysis and combining ability analysis revealed the importance of additive as well as non-additive gene effects.
