Autotetraploidy was induced in cluster bean variety F.S. 277. Of the various treatments used, treatment of dry seeds with colchicine solution was effective in inducing autotetraploidy. The autotetraploids showed several irregularities in meiosis as a result of which pollen and seed fertility were greatly reduced. The morphological characters of tetraploids are indicative of the utility of this technique for improvement of this fodder crop.
