A study of nine crosses in toria Brassica campestris showed a wide range of heterosis varying from 19%-102% over the best parent and from 25%-113% over the check, T 9. Two hybrids (DS 17 M × B 54 and DS 17 M × local) have shown good heterosis. Analysis of the expression of yield heterosis in relation to its heterosis for yield components revealed that siliquae per plant and seeds per siliqua contribute largely while seed weight has little influence. The utility of the information obtained for the genetic improvement of toria populations has been discussed.
