After treating seeds of barley with physical (gamma rays and fast neutrons) and chemical (EMS and NMU) mutagens, selection for flowering time and short stature in the M2 generation led to the selection of true breeding, early flowering, dwarf mutants. Analysis of the yield components has shown that the dwarf mutants are similar to the parent in several yield contributing factors.
