Abstract

Inheritance of kernel weight was studied in the cross S 310 × C 273, using P1, P2, F1, BC1, BC2, F2 and F3 generations grown under normal and late sown conditions. The kernel weight in the F1 was significantly greater than the kernel weight of the superior parent. Variance components analysis revealed that both the additive and dominance effects were responsible for this character. Estimation of genetic parameters under epistatic model indicated dominance and epistatic effects to be greater in magnitude than additive effects. Of the epistatic effects, additive × additive and additive × dominance types were important in both sowings whereas dominance × dominance effect was also important in late sowings.
