Abstract

The association between quality components and developmental traits related to tillering, flowering and maturity revealed either association in a desirable direction or weak correlation which can be overcome for simultaneous improvement of yield and grain quality with early flowering and snychronous development. The inter-relationship among quality components and estimates of hQ for the same have also indicated the possibility of simultaneous improvement of each of the characters and productivity, tillering and maturing, unlike the difficulties encountered in other cereals. Selection for grain size and grain colour may result in a desirable correlated response for nutritional quality.
