Abstract

The present study of 41 base populations derived from the Indian, African and American sources of world germ plasm have revealed the availability of wider genetic diversity for grain yield in the African, and for protein content in the Indian material. Several aspects of studies based on top cross analysis in this material have helped in the selection of promising types for future breeding programmes for higher yields and better nutritional quality.
