Abstract

Genotypic and phenotypic correlations between oil yield and six of its componental characters have been estimated in a toria germplasm comprising 30 genetically diverse cultures. Three of these component characters namely seed yield, number of siliqua per plant and oil content showed positive and significant association with the oil yield. Both correlation and path analysis showed rather a similar picture of the causal system of the factors governing oil yield. It is evident from both the types of analyses that the major portion of the variability present in oil yield is contributed by the characters number of siliqua per plant and the oil content. The further utilization of this information and its impact on the selection efficiency has been indicated.
