Abstract

Association of characters in early segregating generation of a cross between IR8 (semidwarf rice) and Manipuri Dumai (tall, early maturing local variety) were studied under late planting condition in kharif. Means and variability of parents and F2 for important characters have been studied. The association between dwarf plant type and high grain yield was not evident under the stress condition. On the other hand tall segregants showed a strong association with high yield. Low sterility percentage, high tillering ability, high spikelet number and earliness in flowering were among the other desirable traits that showed favourable association with grain yield.
