Abstract

Diallel analysis for flowering initiation involving parents, F1 and F2 populations of 10 varieties of pigeon pea was conducted using the procedure developed by Jinks (1954). The component analysis indicated the predominance of additive genetic variance and the degree of dominance was found to be in the partial dominance range. The dominant genes were found to be associated with the early maturity. The proportion of dominant and recessive genes in the parents was almost equal. Heritability in the narrow-sense was high indicating that the improvement can be made in desired direction by simple selection procedures.
