One hundred and fifty two rice varieties consisting of 44 tall, 72 intermediate and 36 dwarf types from the germ plasm collection were grown at the Rice Research Station, Chinsurah (Hooghly) during the boro (dry) season for three consecutive years, i.e., 1968–71. Correlation studies between 10 different character combinations at maturity showed that in selection for donor parents in a breeding programme for high yield and/or for selection in the segregating populations in F2 and F3, attention should be given more to plants having intermediate height, intermediate flag leaf length and breadth and not too long panicle.
