F3 families of an intervarietal cross of common wheat between a wheat variety Aoubakumuji from Japan and an Indian variety N.P. 890 were studied for joint segregation of seven qualitative characters, viz., early growth habit, leaf hairiness, glume, pubescence, glume beak, glume shoulder, awning and grain colour. The genes for glume beak, glume shoulder and awning are in the same linkage group with the same factor responsible for both glume beak and awning.
