Inheritance of some Qualitative Characters in job'S Tears

Inheritance of three characters, (i) seedling base colour, (ii) style colour and (iii) hairiness of the upper surface of the leaf, was studied in F₂ and back-cross generations in Job's tears. Purple colour of both seedling base and style results from complementary interaction of two dominant genes. Apart from the above, style colour has also a light purple phenotype governed by a different gene. The presence of hairs on the upper surface of the leaf is due to a single dominant gene with the heterozygote exhibiting intermediate phenotype.
