Inheritance of three characters, (i) seedling base colour, (ii) style colour and (iii) hairiness of the upper surface of the leaf, was studied in F2 and back-cross generations in Job's tears. Purple colour of both seedling base and style results from complementary interaction of two dominant genes. Apart from the above, style colour has also a light purple phenotype governed by a different gene. The presence of hairs on the upper surface of the leaf is due to a single dominant gene with the heterozygote exhibiting intermediate phenotype.
