Abstract

The performance of 14 hybrids involving 7 selected lines and two male parents from genetic stocks of diverse origin were examined to investigate the extent of heterosis in various crosses. Marked heterosis was observed in many crosses for all the characters examined and more pronounced effects were found for early yield than total yields. No. of fruits/plant and fruit weight were observed to be main characters affecting the yield. Overall study of the hybrid vigour revealed that cross Kuber × HB 5 possessed maximum desirable characters and potentials for commercial exploitation. Cross Angoorlata × HB 5 also was found promising for early as well as total yield.
