Abstract

Two varieties of L. esculentum (Fireball and Roma) and one variety of L. peruvianum (E.G. 2793) were treated with different dosages of uv, γ-rays, EMS and combination treatments of γ-rays and EMS in order to examine the frequency and spectrum of mutations in the M2 generation.

The combination treatments of physical (γ-rays) and chemical (EMS) mutagens proved to be quite efficacious in producing higher mutation frequency with broad spectrum of viable mutations than treatments alone with γ-radiation or the alkylating agent EMS. Several viable mutations affecting growth habit, characters of leaf, flower and fruits were isolated.
