Abstract

In order to obtain beneficial viable mutations in C 164 barley [Hordeum sativum Jess), dry dormant seeds were treated with different doses of EMS, gamma rays, 32P and 35S. Twenty two of the 147 viable mutant types scored in the M2 and confirmed in M3 generation, viz., Dwarf, Erectoides, Stiff straw, Very early, Early, Profuse tillering, Synchronous tillering, Late leaf-senescence, Long broad leaf, Erect leaf, Dark-green leaf, Liguleless-ram-auricleless, Thick stiff culm, Male sterile, Thick grain, Double-floret, Brittle awn, Multinodosum-cum- monopodial branching, Many-noded dwarf, Thick-culm dwarf, and Long-peduncled dwarf, of plant breeding significance are described.
