An examination of 877 germ plasm collections of Cajanus based on maturity groups revealed that as the duration increased, pod number, yield and seed size also increased. Pod number and seed size were the most important components contributing to yield. Hybridization between groups rather than within a group will be more fruitful. The role of linkages and the need for intermating procedures in recombining short duration with high yields and bolder seed size need to be investigated.
