Abstract

Bacteriophage Lambda was found not to adsorb to K. pneumoniae, although it adsorbed to Escherichia coli. Phage 424 was sound to adsorb to bboh K. pneumoniae end E. coli. These ppages were genetically marked aan recom-bined in E. coli. Two kinds of recombinants were selected: immlambdah424 (hybrid 1) and imm424hlambda (Hybrid 2). One of the isolate of hybrid 1 was used for lysogenization of a E. coli strain harboring chl D deletion. The lysogen was induced and from among the progeny phage several immlambdah424 p gal+ phages were picked up. One of the p gal+ strains shat carrred the whole gal operon was selected. A multiple marked gal strain of K. pneumoniae was constructed and transduced with immlambdah424 p gal1δ. Phage produced on induction of this strain transduced gal strains of both E. coli and K. pneumoniae to gal+.
