Chiasma frequencies have been worked out in 12 species and varieties belonging to the emmer group of wheats. Similarities or differences in chiasma frequencies and distribution in individual species and varieties were assessed. On the basis of such homogeneities or heterogeneities, some of the species have been assigned to three groups. Infra-group homogeneities and inter-group differences are found to be significant. Various factors affecting the pairing or chiasma formation are discussed.
