Genetic divergence as measured by Mahalanobis's D2 statistic was studied in 64 populations consisting of 4 exotic and 4 indigenous barley varieties and their 56 F1 hybrids including reciprocals. The 64 populations were grouped into ten clusters including 1 single variety cluster. Clustering pattern of the hybrids was somewhat influenced by their parentage. An exotic culture, EB-1556, was uniquely divergent from the remaining varieties. Also, hetero-zygotes appeared to cause more divergence as compared to homozygotes.
