The present paper deals with the analysis of gamma rays induced genetic variability in Linum usitatissimum L. var. Hira, Mukta and Neelum. Based on certain yield contributing character viz., number of effective tillers and number of capsules per plant, average number of seeds per capsule and seed index, certain M2 plants were sorted out whose values with respect to the character concerned exceeded the mean by 2 times the standard deviation (X+2δ). Seeds of the selected plants were bulked variety, dose and selection wise and raised as M3 generation. In M3, certain genetic parameters were estimated and reported herein.
Fixable genetic variability is generated and superior lines in individual yield components are obtained. In improving the grain yield, selection based on number of effective tillers and number of capsules per plant, appeared to be most effective.
