Monogenic control with complete dominance of purple over green in hypocotyl, deep and light blue over yellowish white anther and pollen, blue over white filament and style of L. gallicum, L. pallescens and L. corymbiferum, light blue over white stigma of L. gallicum and L. corymbiferum and wistaria blue over milky white petal of L. africanum were observed. Monogenic with incomplete dominance was found in sea-lavender violet × wistaria blue and lobelia blue × wistaria blue in petals, deep blue over white stigma of L. gallicum and L. corymbiferum.
Recessive epistatic interaction with incomplete dominance of one of the factors and inhibitory interaction was observed in the control of filament and style colour. However, the crosses involving L. africanum need further study.
Interspecific differentiation has been established in respect of hypocotyl and floral parts pigmentation.
