Abstract

The manifestation of heterosis and inbreeding depression was studied to determine the feasibility of F2 seeds for general cultivation in six released and one experimental sorghum hybrids. Marked heterosis and inbreeding depression were observed for all the characters except number of grains per secondary. Inspite of maximum yield heterosis in CSH-2, CSH-3 and CSH-5, the drastic inbreeding depression for grain-yield in F2 suggests that the recommendation of F2 seed for general cultivation is not advisable.
