Abstract

The foregoing resume points out that while breeding for quality in herbage species, the criteria for quality could be different with different genera and species of herbages. In breeding strategy the factors other than the digestibility percentage that govern the intake is to be determined and accordingly, the breeding programme for particular species of herbage evolved. The morphological characters of plants governing such factors in forage species should be identified to aid in breeding efforts; due emphasis must be accorded to these parameters of herbage quality as well.
