Abstract

The preponderance of variance due to general combining ability for all the characters suggests that there is considerable scope for line improvement; further increase in yield may be obtained through the exploitation of additive and additive × additive gene action from high × high cross combinations. The fairly high magnitude of heterosis for forage yield and yield components and significant mean squares for specific combining ability for forage yield suggests the possibility of exploiting heterosis commercially.
