Laboratory methods exist which can characterize the nutritive value of forages and feeds with some accuracy. However, it may be that there may be pitfalls in their practical use which may make the information so obtained is not always immediately useful or applicable. Since laboratory analyses are expensive their use might be restricted to the solution of specific problems for which their practical values is demonstrated.
