Identification of genes governing short stature in the Italian variety ‘Mara’ was under studied using ‘Chinese Spring’ monosomic series. The F1 F2 and F3 results showed the presence of dwarfing genes in this variety on eight different chromosomes, 2A, 4A, 5A, 3B, 4B, 6B, 4D and 6D distributed in five different homeologous groups. The genes on chromosomes 2A, 5A and 6D appear to show segregation like major gene whereas, the nature of genes present on remaining five chromosomes 4A, 3B, 4B, 6B and 4D could not be known. In addition, there appears to be a height gene on 5B in this variety.
