Identification of chromosomes carrying genes controlling short stature in the Yugoslavian variety NS 310 was undertaken using Chinese Spring monosomies as female parent. The F1 F2 and F3 results showed the presence of genes controlling short stature in this variety on nine different chromosomes, distributed in five homeologous groups, 2 to 6. The genes on chromosomes 2A, 5A and 6D showed segregation like major genes of similar effect. The nature of genes carried by other six chromosomes, 4A, 3B, 4B, 20, 2D, 3D, and 4D could not be predicted. Four other chromosomes, 5B, 5D, 7A and 7D belonging to homeologous groups 5 and 7 may be assumed to carry genes promoting height.
