Genetic variability was wide among 25 mungbean (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.) varieties with respect to NAR, RGR and LAR at pre-flowering stage. Estimates of correlation coefficients among yield and these attributes revealed that the yield was negatively associated with NAR at pre-flowering stage showing that high early vigour did not give any advantage to mungbean under conditions of the present experiment. Other growth attributes appeared to have no direct bearing on yield expression but would seem to be good supplementary criteria of emphasizing genetic diversity among parents to be chosen for breeding work.
