Inheritance of ear type, shelling habit, awns and grain color in fourteen intra- and inter-specific crosses of tetraploid wheats has been studied. Monogenic and digenic control of ear type and shelling habit was noted except for MACS-10 × ‘Chandur’, where three pairs of alleles were involved (57:7). In ‘Bansi-20-7-3’ × ‘N-5-67-14’, incomplete dominance of awned condition with 1:2:1 segregation was observed. Out of nine combinations, in six crosses there was monogenic control of red grain color. In three combinations the segregation suggested digenic control of this character. Comparison of the genetic behaviour of all these characters revealed constancy in the genetic constitutions of unit character, shifts in segregation ratios in intra- as also inter-specific combinations.
