One hundred and forty seven lines were tested for tolerance to deep water condition in a rapid method of screening developed at AICRIP centre, Hyderabad. Fifteen lines had good tolerance to submergence and good stem elongation. These included 5 lines from the cross RP 31-49-2 × Leb Muey Nahng which could be tested under varying depths of water level for elongation capacity. These had, in addition, some degree of tolerance to brown planthopper.
