The gene in ‘Hannchen’ imparting resistance to races 5 and 14 of U. hordei appeared linked with one of the two complementary genes for purple auricle colour. However, the locus of the resistant gene could not be fixed as the interrelationship of auricle colour genes with various markers has not been investigated. One of the two complementary res-genes of ‘Himalaya’ also appeared associated with gray pericarp gene located on chromosome 5. No association of brachytic character with smut reaction was observed. Indications of association between smut reaction of Himalaya and hull-adherence need confirmation.
