The spectrum and frequency of mutations induced by gamma-ray, ethyl methane sulphonate and nitroso methyl urea in four varieties (Blue Bird 1, 2, 3 and 4) of hexaploid spring wheat are compared. Chemical mutagens (EMS and NMU) are more efficient in inducing a wide range of mutations with a higher frequency.
