Six genetical populations of five bhindi crosses were grown during kharif 1974-75 at the College of Agriculture, Dharwar, for the study of gene effects for days to flowering, plant height and number of fruits per plant. Dominant gene action was found to be more important than additive type of gene action for all the three characters. Additive x additive type of gene action present in all the crosses except 1 × 2 for days to flowering, 1 × 2 and 1 × 5 for plant height and all the crosses for number of fruits per plant indicated the effectiveness of selection in advanced generations. All the crosses except 1 × 2, 1 × 5 and 1 × 6 for days to flowering, plant height and number of fruits per plant respectively indicated the possibility of obtaining transgressive segregants.
